NEW IR RECEIVER MODULES ARE INDUSTRY'S FIRST APPROVED FOR AUTOMOTIVE STORAGE
24 September 2003 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a new series of miniaturized IR receiver modules that are the industry's first such devices approved for a storage temperature range of -40 °C to +90 °C in automotive environments.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a new series of miniaturized IR receiver modules that are the industry's first such devices approved for a storage temperature range of -40 °C to +90 °C in automotive environments.

Designed for remote control systems in automotive applications requiring an extended storage temperature range, the new TSOP48xxxxAM multi-functioned IR receiver modules will be used primarily for in-car entertainment systems.

The new Vishay Semiconductors devices integrate a photo detector and preamplifier in a single compact package with internal metal shielding for protection against electrical field disturbances, as well as Automatic Gain Control circuitry for suppression of ambient light disturbances.

With dimensions of 6 mm by 6.95 mm and a height profile of 5.6 mm, TSOP48xxxxAM receiver modules help designers develop highly integrated, space-saving remote control systems. Each module's compact epoxy package serves as an IR filter to further enhance performance.

In addition to high immunity against ambient light, the TSOP48xxxxAM series provides low power consumption and a low active output. An internal band filter allows PCM frequency operation. The devices are optimized for multimedia applications with a demodulated output signal that can be decoded directly by a microprocessor.

Specified for a supply voltage of 4.5 V to 5.5 V, these receiver modules are available in seven standard carrier frequencies ranging from 30 kHz up to 56 kHz with a suitable burst length of ≥10 cycles/burst. The new devices are TTL- and CMOS-compatible.

Samples and production quantities of the new TSOP48xxxxAM IR receiver module from Vishay Semiconductors are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
