VISHAY SEMICONDUCTORS ANNOUNCES 4-MBIT/S INFRARED TRANSCEIVER WITH 1-M TRANSMIT DISTANCE
16 July 2003 - Vishay Electronic

Broadening its offerings in the infrared data transmission market, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the availability of the industry's smallest fast infrared transceiver used for short-distance, wireless communication.

The new Vishay Semiconductors TFBS6614 transceiver measures just 2.7 mm high, a reduction of more than 25% compared with other FIR transceivers on the market, while maintaining a typical communication distance of 1 meter. Design engineers can now upgrade to the faster data rates of an FIR transceiver while making their handheld devices smaller and thinner. Communicating at 4 Mbit/s, the TFBS6614 features 20-times faster throughput than serial infrared devices, allowing quick exchange of even large MP3 and MPEG data files.

Given Intel's Xscale embedded FIR controller, the TFBS6614 transceiver can easily be adopted by the PDA market, particularly for Pocket PC applications. In PDAs, the TFBS6614 transceiver can also be used as the emitter for TV remote control, providing transmit distances equivalent to standard remote control emitters. For PDA and mobile phone applications, the TFBS6614 transceiver allows a low-voltage controller (to 1.5 V) to connect directly to the transmit, receive, and shutdown logic signals of the transceiver. This capability eliminates the need for a costly signal-level converter and reduces power consumption.

Sample quantities of the TFBS6614 are available now.

Vishay's New DSM Ultra-Precision, Surface-Mount Foil Resistor Dividers Provide Stability of 0.01% at 0.05 W, Tracking Values Down to 1 ppm/°C
MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA July 11, 2003 Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (VSH: NYSE) today announced the release of the DSM series of ultra-precision, surface-mount resistor dividers, which integrate a matched pair of Bulk Metal Foil resistors featuring excellent stability and industry-leading TCR performance with absolute values of 5 ppm/°C and tracking values of 1 ppm/°C or better.

These new Vishay Foil Resistors dividers incorporate a two-resistor, three-terminal resistor network in a compact molded, epoxy package measuring 0.16 in. by 0.106 in. [4.0 mm by 2.7 mm]. The electrical performance of this integrated construction provides superior performance and improved use of space compared with discrete and matched-pair resistors. High stability of 0.01% at 0.05 W and 70°C over 2,000 hours also sets these dividers apart from competing devices.

The DSM series is intended for precision instrument amplifier applications, differential gain control, and precision voltage division applications in automated test equipment and measurement instrumentation, as well as in precision weigh scales and voltage dividers.

Resistance values of 100 Ω to 10 kΩ are available in a broad range of resistance ratios from 1:1 to 100:1, with a tight resistance-ratio tolerance as low as ±0.01%. Absolute tolerance is 0.02%. The DSM divider features a power rating of 0.1 W for the entire package at 70°C, or a rating of 0.05 W per resistor. The series' performance is enhanced by low thermal EMF of 0.1 µV/°C and low current noise of 0.01 µV/V(RMS) at -40dB.

DSM resistor dividers, which feature silver-coated copper-alloy terminals, weigh just 0.04 g and offer resistance to thermal shock, shock, moisture, high-frequency vibration, and extreme temperatures. They are specified for an operating temperature range of -65°C to +150°C.

Available in bulk-pack or tape-and-reel packaging, samples and production quantities of the DSM series resistors are available now.
