NEW SURFACE-MOUNT, COMMON-MODE CHOKE CIRCUITS IMPROVE ON MULTILAYER CIRCUITS
27 June 2003 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of two new surface-mount, common-mode choke circuits featuring a wirewound design that enables lower dc resistance, higher current-handling capability, and greater stability than multilayer common-mode choke circuits.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of two new surface-mount, common-mode choke circuits featuring a wirewound design that enables lower dc resistance, higher current-handling capability, and greater stability than multilayer common-mode choke circuits.

The new Vishay Dale ICM-0805 and ICM-1206 common-mode choke circuits are designed to provide noise suppression in Universal Serial Bus 2.0, FireWire/IEEE 1394, Low-Voltage Differential Signaling, and other high-speed digital interfaces increasingly incorporated in end products including notebooks and personal computers, digital cameras, and scanners.

The ICM-0805 features maximum dc resistance from just 0.20 Ω up to 0.45 Ω at rated currents from 450 mA down to 280 mA and common-mode impedance ranging from 30 Ω to 370 Ω at 100 MHz. Maximum dc resistance for the ICM-1206 ranges from 0.3 Ω to 1.2 Ω with rated current ranging from 370 mA down to 200 mA and common-mode impedance from 90 Ω to 2200 Ω. Both devices feature a rated voltage of 50 V, a withstanding voltage of 125 V, and insulation resistance of 10 MΩ.

Packaged in lead (Pb)-free, surface-mount designs that feature excellent solderability and high resistance to solder heat, the new devices enable easy assembly with flow and reflow soldering. The ICM-0805 and ICM-1206 measure 0.079 in. by 0.047 in. [2.0 mm by 1.2 mm] and 0.126 in. by 0.063 in. [3.2 mm by 1.6 mm], respectively, with heights of 0.047 in. [1.2 mm] and 0.075 in. [1.9 mm]. Both devices offer high reliability over an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

Samples and production quantities of the ICM-0805 and ICM-1206 are available now. Lead time for production quantities is six to eight weeks.
