VISHAY'S NEXT−GENERATION IR RECEIVER MODULES PROVIDE 3−V OPERATION OVER DISTANCES OF 35 M
20 June 2003 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. is adding to its family of multi−function IR receiver modules for the remote control market with 14 new devices that provide high immunity to ambient light disturbances while operating over a distance of 35 m (114.8 ft.) on supply voltages as low as 2.7 V.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. is adding to its family of multi−function IR receiver modules for the remote control market with 14 new devices that provide high immunity to ambient light disturbances while operating over a distance of 35 m (114.8 ft.) on supply voltages as low as 2.7 V.

The new TSOP3xxxx receiver modules from Vishay Semiconductors combine a PIN diode and preamplifier in a single package measuring just 6.95 mm by 6 mm with a height profile of 5.6 mm, allowing designers to develop highly integrated, space−saving IR remote control systems for end products including toys, televisions, DVD players, VCRs, and other battery−powered, remote−controlled products.

The module's epoxy package doubles as an IR filter, while integrated Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry suppresses all kinds of light−source disturbances. Internal metal shielding protects against electrical field disturbances, and an internal band filter allows PCM frequency operation. The new receiver modules are specified for a supply voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and serve as the standard receiver in remote controls with a 3−V voltage supply.

Devices in the TSOP3xxxx series can operate with all common data formats, featuring a maximum data rate of 4000 bit/s. A demodulated output signal that can be directly decoded by a microprocessor facilitates use of the module in multimedia applications. TSOP3xxxx devices are TTL− and CMOS−compatible.

Samples and production quantities of the new TSOP3xxxx receiver modules are available now, with lead times of 6 to 8 weeks for larger orders.
