NEW TANTALUM CHIP CAPACITOR COMBINES CAPACITANCE OF 1500 µF WITH ESR VALUES OF 13 MΩ

A new series of solid tantalum chip capacitors announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. features new "E" and "R" case sizes, as well as ultra-low equivalent series resistance and high capacitance values. The Vishay Sprague conformal-coated 597D multi-anode capacitors provide increased reliability and improved reception in dc-to-dc conversion, line cards, mother boards, and power supply applications in end products including test equipment, PCs, and base stations.

A new series of solid tantalum chip capacitors announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. features new "E" and "R" case sizes, as well as ultra-low equivalent series resistance and high capacitance values.

The Vishay Sprague conformal-coated 597D multi-anode capacitors provide increased reliability and improved reception in dc-to-dc conversion, line cards, mother boards, and power supply applications in end products including test equipment, PCs, and base stations.

The devices' ultra-low maximum ESR values range from 13 mΩ to 35 mΩ at +25°C and 100 kHz. Capacitance values range from 330 µF to 1500 µF with standard tolerances of ±10% and ±20%, and working voltage ranges from 4 WVDC to 10 WVDC. Maximum current leakage ranges from 27 µA to 68 µA, and the maximum dissipation factor is 6% at +25°C and 120 Hz.

Capacitors in the E case size measure 0.287 in. by 0.169 in. [7.3 mm by 4.3 mm], with a 0.157-in. [4.0-mm] height profile. The R case measures 0.287 in. by 0.236 in. [7.3 mm by 6.0 mm] with a 0.142-in. [3.6-mm] height profile. The 597D capacitors feature an operating temperature of -55°C to +85°C, up to +125°C with voltage derating.

The new Vishay Sprague devices, the latest addition to the TANTAMOUNT product line, may be used singly in some applications to replace several lower-value capacitors in a small footprint, thereby decreasing component density and increasing space on the PCB. Their conformal-coated construction, which features two standard 100% tin terminations, offers a cost-efficient alternative to multi-anode molded capacitors and provides lower high-frequency inductance than molded equivalent types.

Samples and production quantities of the 597D E- and R-size capacitors are available now in tape-and-reel packaging, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
