27 November 2002 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announces the release of a miniaturized, metallized, polypropylene film capacitor designed to perform in high-voltage, high-current, and high-pulse operations at high frequencies. Specified for broad voltage and capacitance ranges, the Vishay Roederstein MKP1841-M is suitable for a variety of applications including S-correction and fly-back tuning, input and output filtering in SPS designs, and protection circuits in switchmode power supplies, snubbers, and electronic ballast circuits.

With competitive pricing and worldwide availability, the MKP1841-M offers designers a small, reliable, high-performing, and readily available capacitor for end products including TV sets and monitors, power supplies, and energy-saving lamps.

The new capacitor is available in small sizes, ranging from 4.0 mm wide by 10.0 mm long with a 9.0-mm height up to 18.0 mm by 41.5 mm with a 32.5-mm height, depending on capacitance and voltage ratings. Lead-spacing options range from 7.5 mm to 37.5 mm.

The MKP1841-M features 25 capacitance options in a range from 470 pF to 4.7 µF, capacitance tolerances of ±5%, ±10%, and ±20%, and voltage options of 250 VDC, 400 VDC, 630 VDC, 1000 VDC, 1600 VDC, and 2000 VDC. The device's maximum pulse rise time ranges from 133 V/µs up to 9610 V/µs, depending on lead spacing and voltage rating.

Packaged in a flame-retardant plastic case with an epoxy resin seal, the MKP1841-M features exceptional self-healing capabilities, environmentally friendly lead (Pb)-free schooping layers and terminals, and vacuum-deposited aluminum electrodes. The MKP1841-M provides high reliability with an operational life of >300,000 hours, and a failure rate of <2 FIT at 40°C. The capacitor, which is rated for an operating temperature range of -55°C to +100°C, meets IEC test classification 55/100/56, according to IEC 60068, and is suitable for use with any other product from Vishay.

Samples and production quantities of the MKP1841-M are available now, with 10- to 12-week lead times for larger orders.
