SURFACE-MOUNT DEVICES HELP REDUCE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS
22 January 2002 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. is adding to its magnetics portfolio with a new series of multilayer high-frequency ceramic inductors in a space-saving surface-mount 0402 package measuring 4 mils (1 mm) by 2 mils (0.5 mm) footprint and with 2-mil (0.5 mm) height profile.

The new Vishay Dale ILC-0402 series inductors are aimed at signal shaping and RF filtering applications in a wide range of electronic systems. Target end products include cell phones, pagers, keyless entry systems, wireless and wireline networks, remote controls, high-end video processing equipment, set-top boxes, and cable modems.

Standard inductance options for the ILC-0402 series range from 1 nH to 47 nH. Available tolerances are ±0.3-nH for devices rated from 1-nH to 5.6-nH, and ±5% or ±10% for devices rated at 6.8 nH and above. Maximum dc resistance (DCR) ranges from 0.12 Ω to 1.30 Ω depending on inductance.

ILC-0402 inductors feature a high Q rating, with typical values from 10 to 39 at specified frequencies from 100 MHz to 1800 MHz. Minimum self-resonant frequency ranges from 1,000 MHz to 10,000 MHz.

Designed for reliable operation in high-frequency applications, ILC-0402 inductors are rated for currents from 150 mA to 300 mA. Their surface-mount packaging is solderable by reflow or wave methods and specified for a wide operating temperature range of −55°C to +125°C.

Delivered in tape and reel form per EIA specifications, samples and production quantities of the ILC-0402 inductors are available now, with lead times of six weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery only in 10,000-piece quantities starts at $0.05.
