NEW LOW-PROFILE, HIGH-CURRENT INDUCTORS ENHANCE SPACE AND POWER SAVINGS IN DC/DC CONVERTER APPLICATIONS
05 October 2001 - Vishay Electronic
| Two new series of high-current inductors that combine low losses at frequencies up to 5 MHz, low DCR values, and a height profile that is 30% lower than in conventional solutions were announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Designed for dc-to-dc converter and energy storage applications, the new Vishay Dale devices will be used to replace taller, larger, and/or lower-performing inductors, thus enabling lighter, thinner mobile and desktop computers, servers, cell phones, digital cameras, global positioning systems, and other handheld electronic products. |
New Vishay Dale IHLP-2525CZ-01 inductors measure 0.25 in. (6.47 mm) by 0.27 in. (6.68 mm), with a height profile of just 0.118 in. (3.0 mm). Dimensions for new IHLP-5050CE-01 devices are 0.508 in. (12.9 mm) by 0.520 in. (13.2 mm), with a height profile of 0.138 in. (3.5 mm). Standard inductance values in the IHLP-2525CZ-01 series range from 0.10 μH to 4.7 μH, and maximum DCR ranges from 1.7 milliohms to 40 milliohms at 100 kHz, depending on inductance. Maximum current handling ranges from 3.9 A to 22 A. The IHLP-5050CE-01 features a standard inductance range of 0.47 μH to 5.6 μH, maximum DCR values from 2 milliohms to 18 milliohms at 100 kHz, and current ratings from 6.5 A to 18 A. Alternative designs in the IHLP family have inductance ranges from 0.025 μH to 15μH with current ratings up to 48 A. Inductance tolerance for both devices is ±20%. At full rated current, each device has an inductance drop of less than 10%. Both inductor series are now available using an entirely lead-free construction. Samples and production quantities are available now. Lead time for production quantities is six to eight weeks.
