NEW VISHAY TELEFUNKEN HIGH-POWER SURFACE-MOUNT LED
13 July 2001 - Vishay Electronic

A new series of high-power, surface-mount LEDs designed for high-current applications requiring larger and brighter devices was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Featuring a red emission color and a 60° angle of half intensity, the new Vishay Telefunken TLMK330x devices will be used in automotive, industrial and display applications such as taillights and brake lights, dashboard illumination, traffic signals and signs, exterior lighting and other applications demanding high visibility during daylight operation.

Built on high-efficiency AllnGaP technology, the TLMK330x LEDs can handle drive currents up to 50 mA. The typical luminous intensity ratio per packing unit is less than 1.6, ensuring an even level of illumination. TLMK330x options additionally include a choice of 611- to 618-nm or 614- to 622-nm dominant wavelengths, and of maximum forward voltages of 2.25 V or 2.55 V, allowing multiple devices to be connected in parallel for high-intensity applications. Luminous intensity, color, and forward voltage are categorized for each packing unit.

Devices in the TLMK330x series are packaged in the P-LCC-2, equivalent to a size-B tantalum capacitor. The lead frame is embedded in a white thermoplast, with an internal reflector filled clear epoxy. The TLMK330x series is available in 8 mm tape reel and is suitable for all soldering methods, according to CECC.

Because LED displays are smaller, longer lasting and more durable than the tungsten lamps traditionally used in the automotive industry, they may be incorporated into fixed assemblies for interior and exterior lighting applications. They provide a homogeneous light source for interior displays while meeting standards for color and brightness in exterior lights.

Samples and production quantities of the Vishay Telefunken TLMK330x series are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders.
