NEW VISHAY TELEFUNKEN HIGH-INTENSITY LED DISPLAYS COMBINE SUPERIOR VISIBILITY WITH LOW POWER CONSUMPTION
06 July 2001 - Vishay Electronic

A new series of high-intensity, single-digit, seven-segment displays that sets a new standard for visibility in low-current LED devices has been announced by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Vishay Telefunken TDSR1350 and TDSR1360, first in the series, will be used in panel meters, test and measure equipment, POS terminals, telecom devices, home appliances, control units, battery-operated instruments and other applications where high readability and low power consumption are both a must.

Built on high-efficiency AllnGaP technology, the TDSR1350 and TDSR1360 are readable under direct sunlight or in "black front" designs where tinted filter glass is mounted in front of the display.

Typical luminous intensity per segment is 750 μcd at a 0.5-mA forward current, a best-in-class rating for applications with a very limited power supply. Luminous intensity is 33000 μcd per segment at the maximum forward current of 10 mA, for which no current derating is required when the device is used in an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The new seven-segment displays feature a red emission color, a 13-mm character size, and a grey package surface. A wide viewing angle enhances readability. The TDSR1350 has a common anode connection and the TDSR1360 has a common cathode connection.

Samples and production quantities of the Vishay Telefunken TDSR1350/1360 series are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders.
