NEW VERTICAL-SLOT TRANSMISSIVE OPTICAL SENSOR PROVIDES HIGH ACCURACY SENSING
05 June 2001 - Vishay Electronic

A new high-accuracy transmissive optical sensor featuring a 5-mm vertical slot was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. With a 0.5-mm aperture, the Vishay Telefunken TCST1210 enables high-accuracy sensing of objects in metering system or DC motor code wheels, VCRs, shaft encoders, or mouse and trackball sensors.

Well suited for use in compact end products, the TCST1210 features a package height of just 10 mm and a 2.54-mm lead pitch. As a transmissive sensor, the device is further optimized for application in streamlined products through the direct face-to-face positioning of an infrared emitter and phototransistor detector on the same optical axis.

The TCST1210 provides a 950-nm operating wavelength, with a 0.4-mm resolution and a typical current transfer ratio of 10%. Protection against ambient light is secured through a plastic polycarbonate package and an additional daylight filter designed specifically to reduce light interference.

As an addition to Vishay's extensive transmissive optical sensor family, the TCST1210 provides designers with maximum flexibility in selecting the slot options and sensor accuracy best suited for their specific product. And with a compact profile, the device is able to provide this flexibility even to designers working with the most streamlined products available today.

Samples and production quantities of the TCST1210 transmissive optical sensor are available now. The lead time for larger orders is six to eight weeks.
