A new series of multilayer ceramic chip capacitors that feature ultra-low inductance and a low-profile design was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Vishay Vitramon VJ0612 ceramic chip capacitors, which typically feature half the inductance level seen in standard capacitors, will be used for high-frequency decoupling and bypass in laptop and desktop computers. The low-profile, very thin outline package of the VJ0612 series allows designers to place the new capacitors underneath ICs, requiring less board space in the final design and reducing circuit trace lengths and parasitic losses. Vishay's VJ9743, VJ9742, VJ9741, and VJ9740 each measure 0.063" by 0.126", with maximum thickness options of 0.020", 0.026", 0.028", and 0.030", respectively. The chip is designed to reduce AC noise in multi-chip modules. The VJ0612 series features an inductance of 0.5 nH. Both the VJ9740 and VJ9743 are available in 25-V and 50-V DC ratings, while the VJ9741 and VJ9742 are available in 50-V versions. A broad capacitance range is offered for Vishay's VJ0612 series, spanning from 0.01 μF to 0.22 μF. The temperature coefficient of capacitance is X7R (±15% from -55°C to +125°C). The VJ0612 series provides the same high-quality performance manufacturers have come to expect of Vishay, with the additional benefit of a low-profile component. The space-efficient packaging gives designers the capability to streamline today's computers into thinner, more compact systems. Samples and production quantities of the Vishay Vitramon VJ9740, VJ9741, VJ9742, and VJ9743 are available now. Lead time for larger orders is 16 weeks.
