TWO NEW VISHAY TELEFUNKEN SMD OPTOCOUPLER SERIES DELIVER REINFORCED ISOLATION
04 May 2001 - Vishay Electronic

Two new series of SMD optocouplers that provide reinforced isolation in a 2-mm high package one of the industry's thinnest for this device type, have been announced by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc.

The new Vishay Telefunken devices consist of a phototransistor optically coupled to a gallium arsenide infrared-emitting diode. The devices offer designers two Miniflat package options: the standard 4-pin (TCLT10xx) or a new, industry-first, 5-pin base-connected version (TCLT11xx).

Intended for current isolation, the new Miniflat SMD optocouplers are optimized for miniaturized products such as PC cards, set-top boxes, fax machines, modems, digital TV, switchmode power supplies, line receivers, computer peripheral interfaces, microprocessor system interfaces and other systems requiring a high level of package integration. All devices in both series conform to the VDE0884, IEC950/EN60950, VDE0804, and IEC65 standards for electrical safety.

Built on Vishay Telefunken co-planar technology, the four-lead TCLT10xx Series and five-lead TCLT11xx Series optocouplers ensure maximum safety and reliability by providing a stable distance between the emitter and detector chips. Creepage distance for both series is >8 mm. Providing an insulation voltage of 5,000 Vrms, the surface-mountable devices also feature a transistor output and a forward current of 60 mA.

Vishay offers nine different CTR options in both the TCLT10xx and TCLT11xx families, with values ranging from 40% to 600%. Additional series features include a -40°C to +100°C operating ambient temperature range, a low typical coupling capacitance of just 0.3 pF, and a low temperature coefficient of current transfer ratio.

All nine of the TCLT10xx and TCLT11xx Series devices are supplied in reel and tape packaging for high-speed assembly, with 3,000 pieces per reel. Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of six weeks for larger orders.
