A new IR receiver module featuring one of the best data handling capabilities in the industry and enhanced immunity against light disturbances was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new TSOP7000, which combines a photo detector and preamplifier in a single compact package, features a 455 kHz carrier frequency and is optimized for use in multimedia end products and applications, including Interactive TV, video conferencing systems, game controllers, interactive toys, wireless keyboards and mice, and remote controls. The new Vishay Telefunken receiver can handle up to 20 kbit/s at a transmission distance of up to 20 meters. Featuring an internal band filter, the TSOP7000 is optimized for PCM frequency, and additionally offers TLL and CMOS compatibility. Power consumption is just 10 mW for the TSOP7000, which can operate from supply voltages from 2.7 V to 5.5 V. Rated for operation at temperatures from, 25ąC to +85ąC, the device provides an output current of 5 mA, with a demodulated output signal that can be directly decoded by a microprocessor. One of the most compact IR receiver modules in the industry, the TSOP7000 measures 6 mm by 8.25 mm by 5.6 mm. The device is quick to respond, with a receiver start-up time of just 50 μs and a receiver data delay time of 18 μs. The TSOP7000 also features a high duty cycle of 45% with short burst operation (N>10). Among the device's key features is an internal automatic gain control that provides increased immunity against the light disturbances frequently caused by energy-saving lamps. With the TSOP7000, Vishay offers a multi-functional IR receiver module designed specifically for the rapidly expanding multimedia market. It will be an excellent solution for designers who need a high-speed, low-cost, space-saving device for multimedia systems in business and the home. Samples of the TSOP7000 IR receiver module are available now, with production quantities available in April 2001. The lead time for larger orders is eight weeks.
