Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has announced the release of a stacked metallized polyester film capacitor that provides improved pulse handling and self-healing capabilities compared with devices built on conventional wound film technology. Featuring a compact design and superior reliability, the new Vishay Roederstein MKT1826 is specified for a wide capacitance and voltage range, allowing designers to use the component in a variety of applications. Intended for coupling, blocking, bypassing, filtering, timing, arc suppression, and energy storage, the MKT1826 is suited for general use in telecommunications, automotive, consumer, and industrial products. Package sizing varies according to the capacitance and voltage rating, and ranges from 2.5 mm by 7.2 mm , with a 6.5-mm height, to 7.2 mm by 7.2 mm, with a 13.0-mm height. The lead spacing is 5mm on all parts. Packaged in a flame-retardant casing, the new capacitor also features environmentally friendly lead-free schooping layers. The MKT1826 features a broad capacitance range, with 23 capacitance options spanning from 1000 pF to 4.7 μF. Capacitance tolerance options of ±5%, ±10% and ±20% are available. A broad voltage range is also provided, with voltage options of 40 VDC, 50 VDC, 63 VDC, 100 VDC, and 250 VDC. Vishay's MKT1826 is well suited for high temperature applications, with an operating temperature range of,55°C to +125°C, or -55°C to 100°C in the 4.7-μF, 40-VDC version. The maximum pulse rise time ranges from 120 V/μs to 350 V/μs, depending on the voltage rating. "The MKT1826 offers excellent electrical parameters, a compact size, and an environmentally-friendly construction," said Heinz Dornecker, Product Manager at Vishay Intertechnology. Samples and production quantities of the MKT1826 are available now, with 8- to 10-week lead times for larger orders.
