A NEW GENERATION OF PROPYLENE ALPHA OLEFIN COPOLYMERS FOR PP CAST FILM
03 September 2001 - Borealis A/S

Best optical properties are one of the most decisive factors for the success of PP castfilms as a packaging material. Continuous efforts to improve the optical window regarding transparency and surface gloss has led to the introduction of a new generation of C3/-olefin copolymers.

Best optical properties are one of the most decisive factors for the success of PP castfilms as a packaging material. Continuous efforts to improve the optical window regarding transparency and surface gloss has led to the introduction of a new generation of C3/-olefin copolymers.

These new Borealis PP materials, traded under the brand name Borclear, combine highest brilliancy with lowest blooming effects during film storage. In addition, such materials offer a unique combination of balanced mechanics (stiffness/film flatness/tenacity) and superior sealing properties (sealing seam strength/hot tack) in comparison to existing C2/C3 random copolymers. Due to these benefits, films made with Borclear can be converted with significantly lower cycle times during sealing and packaging; it has been shown that bread packaging can be converted up to 30% faster. Borealis currently offers 3 different Borclear grades:

Borclear RD738CF, formulated with slip and antiblocking additivation especially suitable for all kinds of converting films (food/textile/hygiene applications) with high line speeds, stationery applications and coextrusion.

Borclear RD708CF, no slip and antiblock, stearate free, especially suitable for films with low migration and best optics for food and medical applications, for label and display films, as a sealing layer, for coextrusion or as a blend material with slip and antiblock formulated grades.

Borclear RE718CF, formulated with a special antiblocking additivation, stearate free, specially designed for all kinds of metallisable film applications with excellent metal adhesion, for very thin sealing/outside layer in coextrusion due to its good flowability and as a blend partner for formulated grades
