The newly developed, highly innovative grade, Daplen EE137AI, is 10% mineral-filled and also contains EPDM to ensure splinter-free behaviour. The grade shows excellent scratch performance and gives no visible white defects when scratched. It fulfils Fiat's 50.130 SR norm and has been accepted for use for the dashboard of the Fiat Punto.

"Excellent mechanical stiffness, outstanding impact balance and high scratch resistance were the main reasons for the selection of this grade by Fiat,"said Franz Zängerl, Market Development Manager Automotive. "In addition, smooth and close co-operation between Borealis and Fiat ensured the success of the project."

Production of Daplen EE137AI in Europe will be at the Borealis compounding plant in Schwechat, Austria. This plant has a capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum and mainly produces compounds for the automotive industry. The dashboards will be moulded by Textron of Italy.

As Fiat is a global car producer, Daplen EE137AI will also be used in the production of dashboards for the Fiat Doblò in Brazil. Production of Daplen EE137AI in Brazil will take place at one of the compounding plants belonging to Borealis-OPP. This is a joint venture between Borealis (80%) and the Brazilian company OPP Petroquímica S.a. (20%). Currently Borealis-OPP produces 50,000 tonnes per year of compounds and serves the automotive and home appliance industries in South America. Production sites in Brazil are located in Triunfo and Itatiba.
