NEW RP RESIN ON TRIAL AT CTI
19 May 2006 - Castings Technology International

Cti have recently started producing some of their Stereolithography rapid prototypes using one of the latest SLA materials on the market, Huntsman's RenShape SL 5260. The main differences between the new material and the bulk of other SLA materials are that it is white, and it exhibits properties similar to ABS plastic. Huntsman claim that the key advantages of the resin are that it has good durability, high rigidity and good temperature performance. It also retains its rigidity, even after aging, relieving embrittlement concerns.

Huntsman claim that the key advantages of the resin are that it has good durability, high rigidity and good temperature performance. It also retains its rigidity, even after aging, relieving embrittlement concerns. This makes the material suitable for patterns and tooling applications within the casting industry, and Cti will be testing out this suitability in the next few months, particularly as part of the Advanced Metals Technology Initiative project investigating the various methods of rapid casting manufacture.
