FOR TOUGHER ADHESIVES AND COATINGS, TRY NEW DUPONT VAMAC MR
17 May 2006 - DuPont Engineering Polymers
| A new grade of DuPont Vamac ethylene acrylic elastomer delivers multiple benefits as an impact modifier for adhesives, coatings and other thermoset resin systems. Called Vamac MR, it can improve impact resistance, flexibility at low temperatures and high-temperature resistance in applications such as cyanoacrylate adhesives, phenolic resin formulations and flexible epoxy circuit board coatings. The new modifier is thermally stable up to 280ºC. It is an amorphous polymer with a sub-zero glass transition temperature (-30ºC), resulting in very good low-temperature flexibility. Unlike other Vamac grades, Vamac MR has no added chemicals which can impact adhesive performance. |
Vamac MR also has high polarity, making for excellent compatibility with polar resins. It is readily soluble in toluene, MEK, acetone and other solvents commonly used in adhesive and coating systems. Its formulation includes a low level of acid cure monomer. By providing reactivity, this makes for good stability and permanence in the modified resin system. Vamac MR is supplied as a solid in 25 kg bales. It can be cut into small chunks and coated with a partitioning agent to give a stable, quick-dissolving material.
