NEW DUPONT COOL2GO WRAP KEEPS BEER COLDER LONGER
20 June 2005 - DuPont Engineering Polymers

Leave it to DuPont to find the answer to the age-old question of how to keep beer cold on a hot summer day. Utilizing its expertise as a global leader in producing science-based, innovative packaging solutions, DuPont today announced that the DuPont "Cool2Go" wrap, is being used for the first time on beer cans to keep beer colder for a longer period of time.

Arriving just in time for the summer months, the specially engineered "Cool2Go" wrap is a thin, insulating layer, which protects beer from heat transferred from warm hands, condensation and outside temperature. The "Cool2Go" wrap is featured exclusively on The Labatt Blue Cold One and is available only in two provinces in Canada (Ontario and Quebec) at this time.

"Applying the "Cool2Go" wrap on beer cans is a first," said Susan Procaccini, DuPont Packaging Solutions. "The "Cool2Go" wrap has a thin thermal barrier, which once chilled, insulates each can of Labatt Blue Cold One keeping beer colder, longer."

The "Cool2Go" wrap is made by placing a high-tech, polymer insulation between two layers of DuPont Teijin Films Melinex film. The Melinex polyester films range includes strong, durable polyester films with functional characteristics compatible with many applications, such as the "Cool2Go" wrap. The patented process produces a thin thermal barrier that locks in the coldness that beer drinkers expect from their beverage.

The Labatt Blue Cold One is a special can that, once chilled, helps keep beer colder for longer," said Bob Chant, Director, Corporate Affairs, Labatt Breweries of Canada. "This specially engineered wrap was made possible by the science-based solutions created by DuPont and we are proud to have worked with DuPont to produce the Labatt Blue Cold One."

Creating the bright and distinctive blue hues on the shrink-wrap that forms a Labatt Blue Cold One six-pack shrink-wrap is made possible by using DuPont Cyrel NOW plates. Cyrel NOW is a universal plate for fine halftone, line, screen and solid printing of most printable materials and has a wide exposure range during processing and extremely short drying times. In addition to alcohol-based and water-based inks, Cyrel NOW is also compatible with UV inks and offers very good ink transfer and long press runs even during critical applications. The plate is very flexible and is suitable for even the smallest cylinder diameters.

Bringing multiple product benefits together to provide solutions to customers is a hallmark of DuPont, proving that science-based solutions come in all shapes and sizes. The use of proprietary insulation technology and Cyrel NOW on the Labatt Blue Cold One is another example of the clear advantages associated with DuPont.
