NEW TOUGH, FLEXIBLE AIR DUCTSMMADE OF DUPONT HYTREL ENSURE RELIABLE AIR FLOW TO SNOWMOBILE ENGINES

| Flexing to accommodate shock and vibration at temperatures down to -40°C, connecting ducts made of DuPont Hytrel thermoplastic polyester elastomer play a key role in feeding air to the engine in Arctic Cat snowmobiles. Two flexible ducts blow molded from Hytrel connect fixed air handling elements of two 2003 Arctic Cat models, the 4 Stroke Touring and the Bearcat. One of the ducts links an air-gathering part mounted beneath the snowmobile's hood to a noise-reducing air box mounted on the engine block. The other duct conveys air from the air box to the engine's intake manifold. |

"Hytrel meets our needs for flexibility, flex endurance and impact resistance over a wide temperature range in the air ducts," said Chad Rolland, project design engineer at Arctic Cat Inc. Fuel, oil and ozone resistance are also key requirements, according to Rolland. Blow Molded Specialties, Inc., Foley, Minn., produces the ducts to Arctic Cat's rigorous specifications from Hytrel HTR8139BK. It allows the processor to meet both quality and productivity goals. "We are able to achieve a well-distributed parison with good melt strength and stability," said President Jeff Spethmann. "Hytrel stretches nicely as the parts are blown, allowing us to control wall thickness even though some of these parts have very irregular shapes."
