OIL GUNS GET RUGGED PROTECTION WITH DUPONT HYTREL

Tough, color-coded shrouds molded from DuPont Hytrel thermoplastic elastomer do double duty as damage protection and identification aid for electronic oil-metering guns from Macnaught Pty Limited of Australia. Used in automotive service facilities around the world, Macnaught oil metering guns are supplied in the United States by Distribution Services Inc., Tampa, Fla. "Hytrel is the perfect material for the shrouds," said Ross Bloore, marketing manager at Macnaught, " because it's tough, flexible, resilient and colorable."

The shrouds are molded in four colors. This allows the garage operator to color- code guns for different grades and types of oil, giving service technicians an invaluable aid for choosing the proper engine oil or automotive fluid at a glance.

In the rough and tumble world of automotive shops, the shroud helps protect the metering gun's electronics against impact damage. And thanks to the resistance of Hytrel to abrasion, tearing and attack by oils, grease and other automotive fluids, the shroud itself has what it takes to survive in the service environment.

The flexibility and resiliency of Hytrel make a shroud that's easy to slip on and lock in place with the aid of integral detents around its lower rim. And the material's creep and fatigue resistance assures maintenance of a snug fit.

With input from in-country DuPont engineer Jim Patterson, Macnaught's molder, AAA Components of Milperra, NSW, Australia, selected Hytrel 4069. A high-performance, low-modulus grade, it delivers the balance of mechanical properties required for the shrouds.
