Holland Sweetener Company is celebrating the successful launch of two new products containing Twinsweet, the low-calorie sweetener made from aspartame and acesulfame-K to deliver long-lasting sweetness in its purest form. XyliFresh 100 Sensitive chewing gum, manufactured by RBV Leaf, hit Dutch retail shelves in January 2005. Rolo low carb was launched by Nestlé in the UK in July 2004. Both products bring a new health-based marketing message to confectionery products presenting opportunities for manufacturers to target wider audiences with traditional favourites. Twinsweet was approved for use in low calorie and diabetic food applications under the EU sweetener directive in 2004 and its use in successfully branded products such as Rolo low carb and XyliFresh dental care chewing gum demonstrates versatility in a variety of applications. Rolo low carb heralds a revolution in low carbohydrate confectionery in the wake of growing interest in Atkins and related diets. In Rolo low carb the sugar is replaced by a combination of bulk and intense sweeteners, including Twinsweet. Twinsweet guarantees a deliciously tasting product with a round sweetness profile, delicate chocolate flavour and the added benefits of a low carbohydrate product. Rolo low carb with Twinsweet (listed on the ingredients label by its generic name 'salt of aspartame–acesulfame) allows dieters following a strict regime to continue enjoying their favourite treat. XyliFresh 100 Sensitive is the first chewing gum with dental health properties, carrying a promise to reduce the pain caused by sensitive teeth. XyliFresh 100 Sensitive represents a great achievement for Twinsweet as well as a new era in chewing gum production. Twinsweet is incorporated at 0.2 per cent into the chewing gum for additional sweetness, improved stability and as a supplementary sweetener to Xylitol, which is chewed out more quickly. As a safe, low calorie and tooth-friendly product, Twinsweet fits perfectly with the XyliFresh 100 dental care range. The result of technological and scientific advances, Twinsweet is a sweetener, sweetener salt of aspartame and acesulfame-K. In contrast to simple aspartame/acesulfame-K blends, Twinsweet links the two sweeteners at molecular level as an ionic salt. Consequently, they cannot be segregated until dissolved in food or drink, resulting in a significantly more stable bond which can be used to maximise initial sweetness and prolong enjoyment. 'The incorporation of Twinsweet into Rolo low carb and XyliFresh 100 represents a great success for Holland Sweetener Company and the Twinsweet brand,' comments Annet Hoek, Communications Manager, Holland Sweetener Company. 'Being involved in the launch of these products is a good result for the company, highlighting the effectiveness of the ingredient and helping to establish a solid reputation for Twinsweet.' Already the ingredient of choice for many food developers across the globe, the Twinsweet brand is set to enjoy 'sweet' success in the future.
