ESAB HAS LAUNCHED THE MIGGYTRAC 3000 TRACTOR UNIT FOR SEMI-AUTOMATED STRAIGHT-LINE ARC WELDING APPLICATIONS
29 April 2005 - ESAB Group
| ESAB has launched the Miggytrac 3000 tractor unit for semi-automated straight-line arc welding applications. Designed for use with the company's semi-automatic power sources, the Miggytrac 3000 is the third model in the Miggytrac family, building on the success of the 1000 and 2000 models. |
Compared with manual welding, all three offer improved productivity and consistency, plus they avoid the need for operators to adopt stressful postures for extended periods. Typical applications include the welding of flanges and stiffeners on plates and beams. Small and compact, yet robust and capable of producing high-quality welds, the Miggytrac 3000 incorporates a wire feed system and can carry wire spools up to 300 mm in diameter and 20 kg in weight. Wire diameters may be from 1.0 to 1.4 mm (unalloyed steel, stainless steel or cored wires) and welding speeds can be set between 150 and 1500 mm/min, with the wire feed rate controllable from 2 to 25 m/min. Four-wheel drive is used in conjunction with guide arms to ensure the motorised tractor unit precisely follows the flange or stiffener being welded. A total of 34 mm of slide adjustment is provided to enable the torch position to be optimised for each application. At the end of the weld run, the Miggytrac can be programmed to reverse for a user-settable distance in order to backfill any crater formed; alternatively, if the power source already has a crater-fill function, the Miggytrac can be programmed with a waiting or cooling time to suit the crater-filling. Another function built in to the Miggytrac is intermittent welding, for which full control over the bead and gap lengths are provided (from 10 to 990 mm). In addition, a faster traverse speed of 2500 mm/min minimises the time taken to move from one bead to the next. The Miggytrac 3000 is equipped with user-friendly electronic control units: one programmes the motion of the tractor unit while the other sets the parameters for the wire feed, such as feed speed, gas pre-flow and post-flow times, and burnback. A single 23-pole connector carries 42V power, start/stop signals and welding voltage potentiometer signals between the power source and the tractor. As standard the Miggytrac is equipped with a water-cooled straight swan neck, though bent swan necks (15 or 30 degrees) and a water-cooled gas nozzle are available as accessories.

About: ESAB Group
As a logical step following his invention of the covered welding electrode back in 1904, Oscar Kjellberg founded ESAB. Since then, the company has constantly improved on existing methods and materials. At the same time, ESAB has developed new methods to meet the challenge presented by technological progress. Today the company produces consumables and equipment for virtually every welding and cutting process and application. 100 years of continuous research, development and manufacture have made ESAB the world leader in welding, cutting and also an international supplier of products, know-how and services that none can match. ESAB's subsidiaries and distributors worldwide are ready to handle your requirements - large and small alike. |
