HANCOPORTAL PROVIDES NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES AND SHEET METAL PROFILING FLEXIBILITY
15 December 2004 - ESAB Group
| H & JW Howells has established a strong reputation for high quality welding and metal fabrication sub-contract engineering. When the company was looking to invest in a cutting machine that would improve the scope of service capability it could offer to its customers, their choice was an ESAB Automation Hancoportal gas and plasma machine. |
Its flexibility, versatility, high accuracy and easy operation is allowing H & JW Howells to provide an all round profiling capability from a single cost- effective investment. H&JW Howells supplies a wide range of customers from a range of different industries including aerospace, defence, mining & quarrying and petrochemical. The Hancoportal's versatility has enabled their varying cutting requirements to be satisfied. Among these are profiling of mild and stainless steel, as well as aluminium, in thicknesses ranging from 10 to 200mm. For smaller engineering companies such as H & JW Howells, the Hancoportal is an ideal investment. It can be equipped with both gas and plasma heads to cut a variety of different metals and thicknesses and it has offered Howells levels of cutting versatility not available with their existing small optical gas cutting machine. Karl Howells, Managing Director says:, "The Hancoportal has enabled us to quote for and obtain work in new areas, making us competitive even outside our usual 100 mile radius for customers." The new equipment has brought other benefits too. "We are now able to get through more work with the same staffing levels, saving time and money, in addition to the additional flexibility," he continues. "We have found the Hancoportal to be reliable and easy to use, the ideal solution for our needs." The portal design Hancoportal has a large bed size of some 3 metres by 6 metres, allowing the company to cut large metal profiles. Its features, including heavy duty rack and pinion drives, motored post assembly contribute to the robustness of the machine as well as positional accuracy whilst cutting at high speeds. A marking head has also been provided for added versatility. Programming is undertaken off-line and files down loaded with the cutting routines. The Columbus cutting software provides a standard profile library whilst the "development" program allows shapes such as square to rounds and cones to be cut.
