ESAB'S PORTABLE PLASMA CUTTER IS IDEAL FOR MAINTENANCE & REPAIR

As repair and maintenance managers seek to improve the efficiency of their operations, many are realising the benefits that plasma cutting offers over traditional techniques such as sawing, grinding and oxy-acetylene burning. In response to demand from customers for a lightweight, portable, but high quality plasma cutting machine, ESAB is launching the Caddycut.

Whereas traditional techniques can struggle with copper and aluminium, or require a change of saw blade or grinding disc, plasma cutting equipment cuts all metals with ease. Indeed, the Caddycut can be used on mild steel, alloyed steels, stainless steels, brass, copper, aluminium or any other metal. Furthermore, the same equipment cuts metals varying in thickness from thin sheet up to approximately 10mm.

The Caddycut has been designed so that it can be used on-site, either indoors or outdoors, and it only requires a single-phase electricity supply and a compressed air supply (a small portable compressor would be adequate). To make the Caddycut simple to carry around, it is even fitted with a comfortable shoulder strap.

Once the user has connected the power, air and return cable, the only adjustment required is to the current setting (the machine automatically sets the air pressure). Lower currents reduce the cutting speed and allow the operator to follow guide lines marked on the workpiece. There is a lamp to show that the power is connected and another lights when there is sufficient air pressure; a third lamp indicates over-temperature.

Because of the high operating temperature of the plasma arc, the workpiece is cut extremely cleanly and quickly. This helps the operator to complete the task rapidly and also ensures that there is no time for the heat to distort the workpiece, even with thin sheet material. The Caddycut can be used to cut profiles, make holes, cut out cracks or cut through old welds, including spot welds.

With virtually no consumables and only low-cost nozzles and electrodes, the Caddycut is an extremely cost-effective tool. Almost no special training is required to use the machine, so full productivity can be attained very rapidly.

In addition to the Caddycut, ESAB also offers a selection of spare parts and accessories, such as a two-wheel torch guide, a simple circle guide, a large guide kit and a magnetic torch holder.
