When arc welding, the operative can suffer dangerous injuries to the eyes and skin if not properly shielded from the harmful infrared and ultraviolet radiation that is generated in the process. To give full face protection against these damaging rays under all conditions, ESAB has now developed a range of helmets using the latest auto-darkening lens technology. Known as the Eye-Tech Range, there are currently four different helmets available in the range plus the ESAB Fresh Air respiratory unit for use with any Eye-Tech helmet. The stylish helmets are based on ergonomic design and are approved to EN166/379. The Eye-Tech process uses advanced electronics to provide continuously adjustable eyeshade darkness between nine and 13. Other helmets in the range provide a choice of two darkness values. The automatic units are powered by solar cells so there is no need for on/off switches. The ESAB Fresh Air respiratory equipment is basically a breathing mask with a particle filter comprising a P3 filter with a pre-filter and a rechargeable battery. It is very light and safe to carry and is recommended for use with the Eye-Tech range of helmets. The Eye-Tech range of welding helmets, together with the fresh air respiratory equipment, are described in a new guide which is available for ESAB. It also shows a chart outlining the specification of each helmet as well as the welding processes for which is should be used.
