ESAB's new A2 Multitrac SAW machine is designed for cost-effectively producing high quality submerged arc welds on a variety of substrates. Particular attention has been paid to making the unit extremely robust and long-lasting, as well as highly accurate. ESAB has also managed to keep the A2 Multitrac very compact and efficient, despite the rugged design and advanced features.

Designed for use with ESAB's LAF (dc) or TAF (ac) welding power sources, the A2 Multitrac incorporates an A2-A6 Process Controller, a digital device that is easy to program via menus and an integral keypad. The controller uses feedback from a tachometer, which helps to achieve the consistently high weld quality. Up to ten different sets of welding parameters can be stored within the controller, and the parameters can be adjusted during welding. Thanks to the combination of the controller and the A2 Multitrac hardware, the system is equally suitable for welding with conventional solid wires (either mild steel or stainless steel) or flux-cored wires.

The A2 Multitrac is available for single-wire or twin-wire submerged arc welding. If the twin-wire option is selected, the deposition rate can be 30-40% higher, joint gaps can be more easily bridged and there is less risk of burn-through. When used for cladding, the twin-wire unit can easily be set up for low penetration.

To complement the A2 Multitrac and give customers the ultimate in SAW flexibility, ESAB offers an extensive range of accessories. These include guide wheel bogies that assist with welding V-joints or tubing, or that can be used with a guide rail when I-joints are being welded and there is no suitable guiding edge. Pilot lamps with either a light bulb or laser diode are also available, and there are several items of equipment for flux handling.
