NEW ESAB GUIDE TO SUBMERGED ARC WELDING
07 September 2000 - ESAB Group

To enable users and potential users of the Submerged Arc Welding process to improve their current process productivity, ESAB has introduced a new guide to assist in the selection of the right consumables and arc equipment for all applications.

To enable users and potential users of the Submerged Arc Welding process to improve their current process productivity, ESAB has introduced a new guide to assist in the selection of the right consumables and arc equipment for all applications.

Having a long world-wide experience of Submerged Arc Welding, ESAB is able to supply not only a full product line of high quality fluxes and wires, both solid and cored, but also a complete range of arc equipment for SAW. The brochure, available free from ESAB, contains full colour photographs and details of all the SAW equipment and consumables in the ESAB range.

The literature includes a product selection chart to enable quick selection of wire/flux combinations. The Submerged Arc process is described and the advantages of SAW are outlined, including productivity, cost saving and operator comfort benefits over other welding processes.

The guide goes on to explain the applications of different methods of SAW and includes diagrams to explain the single wire, twin wire and tandem wire processes and their applications.

The main section of the brochure lists the wires available for SAW. Solid wires in the OK Autrod range, including stainless, are described along with classification, weld metal composition and mechanical properties.

ESAB OK Tubrod cored wires, being a new development in submerged arc welding, have their own section in the guide. A product description is followed by advantages and production benefits, with deposition rate comparison charts given, and again a full list of wires is given. The literature concludes with a section on fluxes available, and describes SAW equipment including Welding Systems, Power Sources and Process Controllers.
