Fluent Inc. and Spatial Corp., a Dassault Systèmes (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris #13065, DSY.PA) company, today announced that Fluent's GAMBIT 2.1 preprocessor, due for general release in the next month, includes native CATIA V4 translation. GAMBIT is the preprocessor supplied with Fluent's world-leading computational fluid dynamics software. Fluent has licensed the native CATIA V4 import technology from Spatial, which is the sole provider of true, native CATIA translators. GAMBIT 2.1 also comes with several new capabilities for supporting the import of complex CAD models, such as automatic connectivity leading to unique Boolean approaches, automated cleanup tools, and easier decomposition tools. It also includes a new, hybrid volume meshing approach (HexCore) based on adaptive Cartesian technology. "GAMBIT 2.1 is a clear breakthrough in the path from CATIA to high-quality meshes for a broad range of CFD applications in many different industries," says Erling Eklund, GAMBIT Product Marketing Manager at Fluent Inc. "In a typical CAD import sequence, a solid or surface model created by CATIA V4 is directly imported into GAMBIT 2.1. The fluid volume is extracted using simple Boolean operations, and straightforward cleanup tools are used to produce the CFD domain. It can then be meshed with a combination of GAMBIT's advanced Cartesian and Hexahedral meshing technologies, resulting in optimal mesh quality at minimal cell count." Engineers at Valeo Engine Cooling, one of many GAMBIT 2.1 beta test sites, were very impressed with this robust path from the CATIA V4 model file to automatic meshing. "GAMBIT has made great progress in CAD import, cleanup, and automatic meshing," says Nicolas François, research and development engineer at Valeo Engine Cooling, a major manufacturer of compact heat exchangers and cooling systems for the automotive industry. "Spatial is dedicated to constantly improving our interop translators," said Linda Lokay, executive vice president of marketing and development at Spatial Corp. "Our native CATIA technology makes our translators superior to any comparable products on the market. The results experienced by Fluent and their end users are indicative of our continuous commitment to developing products that contribute to our partners' success."
