Fluent Inc. announces the immediate availability of version 6.1 of its world-dominant Computational Fluid Dynamics software, FLUENT. This major release offers several key functionality advantages to FLUENT users, including dynamic mesh for modeling flow conditions in and around moving objects. This easy-to-use capability allows users to simply set up the initial mesh, prescribe the motion, and sit back and watch as FLUENT automatically changes the mesh to follow the motion. "The new dynamic mesh modeling capability reaffirms our history of innovation," says Fluent's Chief Technology Officer, Dipankar Choudhury. "FLUENT can now easily simulate physical phenomena previously requiring tedious manual preparation. Applications for this new capability include the modeling of automotive in-cylinder flows, store separation and missile launches, moving valves, fuel injector pumps, and mixing equipment. But, really, the applications for this are limitless. Our customers are thinking of new ways to use it all the time," he adds. FLUENT 6.1 also features a leading edge, built-in acoustics modeling capability that lets users perform "on-the-fly" sound calculations. Moreover, FLUENT's already considerable reacting flow modeling functionality is expanded with efficient handling of realistic, turbulent, finite-rate chemistry and accurate modeling of complex surface chemistry. Eulerian multiphase simulation capabilities for FLUENT have been extended to address heat and mass transfer. This significantly broadens the range of multiphase industrial processes that can be modeled. "These are just a few highlights of this major release, which truly does have 'something for everyone,' from better tools for turbomachinery modeling to new cavitation, spray, and turbulence models; and more economical handling of surface-to-surface radiation," says Paul Bemis, Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy for Fluent. "Once again, FLUENT sets the standard by which all CFD software is measured. We're pleased to be delivering such a significant leap in functionality to help our users stay ahead of the curve as their modeling challenges become ever more demanding."
