LGC´S NEW ANALYTICAL QUALITY TRAINING PROGRAMME - MEETING THE EVOLVING NEEDS OF THE ANALYTICAL COMMUNITY

LGC has published its new 2005 calendar of courses which has been designed to help laboratory managers and analysts demonstrate competence in, and keep abreast of, quality assurance issues and practices. Companies are facing increasing demands to meet regulatory, trade and quality requirements, resulting in a greater need to enhance skills in method validation, measurement uncertainty and the traceability of results. Evidence of training and competence in these areas is a requirement of the international standard ISO/IEC 17025, used in the UK by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service as a basis for laboratory accreditation.

"LGC´s 2005 training programme features a number of courses for the first time to ensure that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the analytical community," said Brian Brookman, Head of training and proficiency testing at LGC. "One brand new course - 'Validation for MCERTS soil testing' - has been put together in association with UKAS. This course," he added, "is designed to equip analytical chemists in environmental laboratories with the essential statistical techniques needed to evaluate method validation data produced to meet the requirements of the Environment Agency's MCERTS performance standard for soil analysis. This jointly developed course is a part of a new collaboration between LGC and UKAS aimed to maximise the use of their respective expertise and provide an even greater range of training to the analytical community."

LGC´s training courses vary in duration from one to three days and consist of both lectures and workshop sessions. They can also be tailored to meet particular in-house training needs. The courses are held in Teddington, South West London, either at LGC´s modern laboratory and office facility, or at Lensbury, a modern conference centre at Teddington Lock.
