LGC AND NORTH WEST WATER LAUNCH NEW ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS SERVICE TO CUT COST OF REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
19 April 2000 - LGC
| Two leaders in environmental analysis have joined forces to offer a new analytical service designed to help industry meet regulatory demands for higher levels of environmental monitoring. |
The service, believed to be the most comprehensive of its kind, has been developed by LGC, the UK's leading independent analytical laboratory, and the Laboratory Service of North West Water Ltd. It will provide the capacity for handling large volume analyses with specialist expertise in the development and validation of new analytical methods and problem solving Analytical science is playing an increasingly important role in industry as companies grapple with tougher regulatory demands to clean up their operations and provide evidence of environmental monitoring. The applications for the new service are diverse, including the routine testing of trace compounds in water, the detection of by -products from speciality chemicals in effluent, and complex land contamination studies. The arrangement will also provide opportunities for companies to outsource their ananlytical operations as a way to reduce their costs and liabilities. Dr John Mason, Managing Director of LGC's North West operations at Runcorn, said: "We believe that companies will be attracted by the combination of independent and impartial advice with the capacity to handle high throughput analysis. "Outsourcing analysis offers a dual benefit. Companies can cut both their short term costs by accessing the economies of scale of a specialist provider, and their long term liabilities by avoiding the need for continued improvement to keep pace with the latest technology and the ever increasing levels of expertise demanded by regulators. In a typical analytical operation outsourcing has the potential to yield a 10-20% bottom line benefit." Dr Roger Ford, North West Water Quality Director said "We see powerful synergy between the two operations, with our experience in high volume, high quality analysis of water, waste water and microbiology being augmented by the specialist LGC expertise in advanced and problem solving. The agreement will enable us to offer our customers a very broad range of services. "We view the collaboration as a good example of service providers working together to offer customers a comprehensive quality service and at the same time to help them control their analytical costs."
