MATERIALISE PRE-ANNOUNCES THE NEXT GENERATION OF AUTOMATED HEARING AID DESIGN SOFTWARE
24 May 2006 - Materialise NV
| Materialise, leading developer of software solutions for the rapid prototyping and manufacturing industry, announces the pending release of the 4th generation of its Rapid Shell Modeling software. |
With the new release Materialise is taking this innovative software for the automated design of hearing aid shells to the next level. This latest version takes in major enhancements to the user interface and introduces comprehensive binaural modeling. Materialise has updated and extended its functionality for In The Ear modeling. The key innovation however is the possibility to design earmolds. Scheduled for release early April, RSM version 4 is expected to greatly advance its ease-of-use and to speed up the design process for hearing aid shells significantly. The new Earmold module expands the software's application scope to Behind The Ear (BTE) hearing aids and the hearing protection market. This way Materialise completes its product offering, meeting the growing demand for affordable earmold design software. Similar to RSM's ITE shell design, the Earmold module offers the operator complete design freedom through its variety of modeling tools. The software's wizard structure guides the operator step-by step and design automation is provided through parameterization. Martin Roth, Phonak AG, who has been closely involved in the development of RSM 4, comments: "Thanks to the enhancements to the graphical user interface, RSM has not only become more attractive but also particularly user-intuitive, allowing for even more efficient ways of operating. Using the advanced binaural modeling technology you can quickly design the left and right device simultaneously. As the majority of our work orders are binaural projects, we expect to save a lot of time because of this improved technology." Highlights of RSM 4.0 are: Renewed, clearly organized user interface increasing ease-of-use and efficiency Spaceball View Manipulationsupport, allowing for a simultaneous manipulation of the shell and positioning of the electronics Binaural modeling dramatically increases design speed by applying all operations on both the left and right ear shell simultaneously, guaranteeing an optimal symmetry The new Earmold module enables sophisticated modeling of earmolds "Align & Compare" includes new functionality supporting various verification and quality control tasks.

About: Materialise NV
Begun as a joint venture with the University of Leuven-Belgium, Materialise was one of the first European rapid prototyping service bureaus. It has since grown into a European supplier of plastic prototype solutions, and today is a worldwide leader in the rapid prototyping industry. Materialise offers a broad range of rapid prototyping, tooling and digital CAD software. In addition, Materialise prototypes and software have established a reputation in medicine and dentistry, with clinicians the world over using them in the most complex surgical cases. Its design products division concentrates on the development of rapid manufacturing. The company is privately owned with several subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and the USA, and employs over 300 people in its 4 divisions.* Materialise Industrial Services to "materialise" technical prototypes and small series through the most advanced prototyping and tooling techniques. * Materialise Software to develop the technical software applications that allow a more efficient use of the rapid prototyping techniques. * Materialise Medical to create medical models using these prototyping techniques and to develop medical software packages that are used by clinicians worldwide to assist them in the most complex cases of surgery. * Materialise.MGX to manufacture design products for the end-user market. MGX is the youngest division and it draws on the knowledge and expertise of the prototyping division. |
