Great Lakes Chemical Corporation has expanded its portfolio of flame retardants with the launch of Firemaster a new general purpose, non-diphenyl oxide (non-DPO) based brominated flame retardant. This high-purity product is designed for challenging flame retardant applications that require consistent colour stability. “Firemaster 2100’s high bromine content makes this flame retardant a very efficient option for a wide variety of polymers such as elastomers, styrenics, polyolefins, and engineering polymers, as well as applications such as adhesives, sealants, and textiles. Its excellent thermal and UV stability make Firemaster 2100 an ideal choice for applications that require high levels of flame retardancy, good processing stability, and resistance to weathering. “In addition, because Firemaster 2100 is a uniform white powder with excellent initial colour, this flame retardant is well-suited for formulations requiring white or light-coloured products,” said Angelo Brisimitzakis, Vice President and General Manager for Flame Retardants. Firemaster 2100 will find use as a flame retardant in such products as television cabinetry, foam insulation, and wire & cable, among others.
