Moldflow Corporation, the leading global provider of design through manufacturing solutions for the plastics injection molding industry, today announced the immediate availability of Moldflow Plastics Xpert 4.2, a patented expert system for automating the setup, optimization and control of the plastics injection molding process. Enhancements to MPX 4.2 include new reporting functions, numerous customer-driven features and tighter integration with Moldflow simulation solutions. These changes allow users to explicitly document MPX processes, speed the setup process by fixing more than one defect at a time and better share critical design optimization data between the design and manufacturing environments. MPX 4.2's new and improved features include: Parts Traceability–Improved reports afford manufacturing executives and managers a complete view of the data collected and results obtained during the setup and optimization phases of the MPX process, leading to better parts traceability through the supply chain. Shortened Setup Time–Users can now use MPX to track and eliminate more than one defect at a time, shortening the time required to setup a molding machine for part production. Higher Efficiency and Part Quality–MPX has been updated to support viscosity control, a key way to improve manufacturing efficiency and part quality. Common Operator Interface – MPX can be run on the same operator interface used for Moldflow's Altanium and Shotscope products, eliminating cost and clutter within the molding cell. According to Dave Rotondo, Moldflow's director of manufacturing technology: "MPX 4.2 provides our customers with a powerful tool to increase production efficiency. MPX can help automate the setup, optimize and control virtually any injection molding machine, but is especially useful to companies with many machines in their plant or many plants across the globe."
