PATENTED TECHNOLOGY SAVES FLOOR SPACE AND ELIMINATES CONNECTING CABLES
01 June 2006 - Moldflow Corporation
| Moldflow Corporation, the leading global provider of design through manufacturing solutions for the plastics injection molding industry, today announced the shipping of a 155-zone Altanium mold mount hot runner control, believed to be a technological first. The innovative technology, covered by US and European patents, allows the Altanium controller to be mounted directly on an injection mold, saving expensive floor space and eliminating numerous connecting cables. |
Chief benefits of Altanium mold mount configuration: Eliminates power and thermocouple cables which can amount to a significant cost savings during the initial purchase Reduces maintenance costs because there is no need to repair damaged cables Saves floor space Increases safety because the elimination of cables reduces the amount of clutter in a manufacturing cell so there are less items to trip over Increases up time of the injection molding machine because it eliminates the chance of a cable being damaged leading to machine stoppages Mold mount Altanium controls can be easily mounted directly on an injection mold, saving expensive floor space and improving the reliability of the mold. The technology also improves the temperature accuracy of molten plastic within a mold, significantly reducing manufacturing scrap and unplanned downtime. "Moldflow developed this technology in direct response to customer requests to eliminate the many connecting cables that would run from a free-standing hot runner controller to the mold," explained Matt Cummings, Moldflow's Altanium product line manager. "Elimination of these cables significantly reduces clutter around an injection molding machine and in today's highly competitive manufacturing environments, we are always looking for ways to help our customers streamline their processes, improve productivity and reduce costs." "Our manufacturing customers are accelerating the development of high cavitation and multi-level stack molds and Altanium Mold-Mounted technology delivers numerous advantages," stated Kirby Johnson, director of Asia-Pacific sales for Moldflow's Manufacturing Solutions business unit. "Without having to purchase the connecting cables between the hot runner process controller and the mold, they are able to save thousands of dollars and significantly eliminate downtime and scrap parts by altogether avoiding failures with the cables."
