Great Lakes Chemical Corporation has expanded its Anox antioxidants line with the addition of two new polymer stabiliser blends containing both a hindered phenolic antioxidant and a phosphite antioxidant. Anox BB2777 and Anox BB2888 are binary synergistic blends used to protect polymers during processing and long term ageing. Both blends contain Great Lakes’ high performance antioxidant Lowinox 1790 and the process stabiliser Alkanox 240. The low volatility of these components allows the new blends to be used at relatively high temperatures, whilst providing excellent resistance to extraction from polymer compounds. The new Anox blends have been developed for process stabilisation in a wide range of thermoplastic polymers including polyolefins (PP, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE), polycarbonates, ABS, and polyesters. Lowinox 1790 was launched by Great Lakes in 2000, and has demonstrated outstanding resistance to gas fading and extraction in polyurethane fibre and polyolefin applications; thereby extending the life of finished goods. Lowinox 1790 also shows excellent synergy with secondary antioxidants for long-term heat stabilisation. Additionally, Alkanox 240 has been successfully used in a wide range of polymer applications including engineering thermoplastics, styrenics, and polyolefins for many years.
