NEW FEATURES PROVIDE VALUABLE DESIGN ADVICE AND INCREASED USER PRODUCTIVITY
02 June 2006 - Moldflow Corporation

Moldflow Corporation, the leading provider of design through manufacturing solutions for the plastics injection molding industry, announced today the immediate availability of Moldflow Plastics Advisers 7.2 software, Moldflow's easy-to-learn, 3D solids-based, plastics flow simulation product. Moldflow leads the industry by providing technologically advanced tools designed to bring the benefits of simulation driven design to the desktops of the vast mid-market user base.

Key features include:

Advanced Geometry Adviser – This new analysis tool checks an imported model for potential problems and generates appropriate warnings before users spend valuable time on advanced modeling or analysis tasks.

Cooling Circuit Modeling Enhancements - The new Cooling System Wizard significantly reduces the time to create cooling circuits including the ability to import multiple cooling channels and simultaneously assign properties among these channels and their intersections.

Enhanced Results Advice – MPA 7.2 allows users to determine the relative quality of weld line defects and view multiple result values simultaneously

Naturally-Balanced Multi-Cavity Support – A new mechanism for generating large naturally balanced multi-cavity layouts significantly decreases modeling and analysis times.

"MPA 7.2 demonstrates our strong commitment to helping designers and manufacturers of injection-molded plastic parts become more productive," said Divya Mehra, MPA product line manager at Moldflow. "The new Naturally Balanced multi-cavity layout mode enables much faster modeling and analysis times, the Advanced Geometry Adviser and improved weld line advice contribute to the optimization of part designs, and the new cooling system wizard makes the design and modeling of cooling circuits much more efficient."

Customers who participated in the MPA 7.2 beta testing program have realized the increased value also. Gregory C. Janice of Original Concepts Design, Inc. explains: "The Advanced Geometry Adviser visually identifies features such as fillets, lettering, and logos. These features add complexity to the analysis model and usually result in longer analysis times. However, they rarely affect the actual flow of plastic through the part. Thanks to the feedback from the Advanced Geometry Adviser, I can now easily identify and suppress these features upfront and reduce analysis time without compromising accuracy. "

Matt Napierlaski, tooling engineer at Bender Mold & Machine, was also pleased with the release and notes: "The Advanced Geometry Adviser gives me an insight into potential problem areas before spending time on more detailed analyses. By explicitly identifying thick and solid regions, this feature creates the potential for optimizing their design and thereby reducing manufacturing costs."

Greg Brown, product design engineer at Jarden Design Associates, adds: "The Naturally Balanced mode in MPA 7.2 makes it much easier to create a balanced runner system for multi-cavity layouts. It also significantly reduces the time to perform a high-cavitation analysis. I also like the new weld line advice. Having access to the underlying properties helps me in determining the impact of a weld line and avoiding potential costs and time delays associated with mold rework."
