Moldflow Corporation, the world leader in process-wide solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastics products, today announced the release of Moldflow Design Link 5.0. MDL provides a design data translation interface between Moldflow's design analysis solutions and the world's leading CAD systems using standard file formats such as IGES and STEP, as well as native Parasolid, Pro/ENGINEER, CATIA V5 and now native SolidWorks part files.

New for MDL 5.0 is support of SolidWorks 2004 and SolidWorks 2005 part models. SolidWorks customers using the MDL/Parasolid version can now directly import their native CAD geometry data into Moldflow's Design Analysis Solutions, which include Moldflow Plastics Advisers (MPA), Moldflow Plastics Insight, and Moldflow Magics STL Expert, significantly decreasing the amount of time required to prepare models for Moldflow analysis.

Brian Houle, Partner Program Manager at SolidWorks Corporation said, "For SolidWorks users who want to analyze their part and mold designs using Moldflow's advanced design analysis solutions, the name of the game is speed and accuracy. We believe that MDL 5.0 will allow these users to transfer their SolidWorks data in record time and with outstanding geometric representation for moving forward with the analysis. We are excited to see Moldflow pass on the benefits of native file interoperability to our customers."

Other MDL 5.0 enhancements include:

The MDL/Parasolid version has been updated to support part models created in versions up to and including Parasolid version 16.0
The MDL/Pro/ENGINEER version has been updated to support part models created in versions up to and including Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0
The MDL/CATIA V5 version has been updated to support part models created in versions up to and including CATIA V5R13 (Release 13)
MDL 5.0 supports MPI 5.0, MPI 5.0 Revision 1 or higher, MPA 7.0, MPA 7.0 Revision 1 or higher and Moldflow Magics STL Expert 1.0
