Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (formerly Erta and Polypenco) and Dynatork Air Motors jointly developed a new non-lubricated Air Motor for operation in harsh and hazardous environmental conditions. The principal of operation is simple but unique. The Dynatork motors use an air supply of up to 100psi (6.5 bar) which is controlled through an integral rotary valve. This sequentially directs air supply on to each of the three pistons in turn. The action of the pistons onto a crank imparts a turning motion to the outlet shaft. The resulting high torque, variable low speed with instant start/stop output, makes the Dynatork product suitable for a wide variety of industrial applications. Perhaps one of the most standard of these is in their use in paint and other liquid stirring applications across all industries. One such paint stirring plant in the automobile industry converted the existing vane air motors to Dynatork product. The original requirement was for greater reliability on a 24/7 plant running without any lubrication to avoid contamination. This criteria was met and the client found that the air consumption saved on 42 units was 1240scfm, in effect a capital saving of two 600scfm compressors. The saving in compressed air resulted in a power saving of 152 kva. This sort of success has been evident at several UK car plants where the Dynatork Air Motors are extensively used in their paint shops. The success of the Dynatork Air Motor relies heavily on its selection of construction materials. Perhaps the most important of these is in the choice of material for both the piston and their cylinder liners.
