Rohm and Haas Company is pleased to announce that methylisothiazolinone, the key ingredient in its Neolone preservative has been approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare/Pharmaceutical Affairs Bureau. The MHLW has added methylisothiazolinone to the positive list of preservatives approved for use in leave-on and rinse-off cosmetic products at a maximum dosage of 100 PPM. The notification was published in the Official Gazette on November 4, 2004. This decision not only recognizes the complete data package submitted by Rohm and Haas in support of Neolone, it enables Neolone and its family of products to be used in cosmetic products produced in Japan or destined for the Japanese market. Neolone preservatives are important additions to the cosmetic marketplace because they offer broad spectrum control as well as ease of use in manufacturing for global formulations. The Neolone family of products also addresses any customer needs for alternatives to paraben and/or formaldehyde-releaser formulations through its Neolone PE and Neolone MxP. End-use product applications include skin care lotions and creams, body moisturizers, sun care products (including those with avobenzone), hair gels and wipes as well as all types of rinse-off applications. European approval for Neolone is expected by early 2005.
