TAPE PRODUCERS CAN NOW ACHIEVE CLEAR-TO-THE-CORE TRANSPARENCY WITH NEW ROBOND PS ACRYLIC ADHESIVES

Rohm and Haas Company, the world leader in water-based technologies for pressure sensitive adhesives, has announced the latest addition to their Robond line of pressure sensitive adhesives. New Robond PS 2020 adhesive is a water-based acrylic emulsion for use in the manufacture of exceptionally clear carton-sealing and mailing tapes. The growing popularity of these 'clear-to-the-core' tapes is evidenced throughout the retail tape market.

Package shippers are also rapidly adopting the newer clear tapes so as not to mar package graphics or obscure shipping information. "In many cases, the outstanding aesthetics and the implied quality that comes with an absolutely clear tape really impress consumers," states Suzanne Carroll, marketing manager for Rohm and Haas pressure sensitive adhesives in North America. "In the past, these tapes were made with solvent acrylic adhesives on oriented polypropylene films, but the clear need for a water-based alternative to meet environmental commitments of tape manufacturers led Rohm and Haas to develop the new water-based acrylic adhesive," says Carroll.

Rohm and Haas carefully scrutinized adhesives, film and manufacturing practices to be certain that new Robond PS 2020 adhesive would meet requirements for clarity and, at the same time, ensure box-closing strength and dependability, even under extreme conditions of heat, moisture and cold. Robond PS 2020 adhesive is currently available to North American customers of Rohm and Haas.
