RTP COMPANY'S NEW ANTI-STATIC COMPOUNDS ELIMINATE SURFACTANT COATINGS
RTP Company, a global leader in specialty compounding, introduces a new family of Anti-Static Compounds that improves reliability and saves time in the manufacture of chip trays, packaging products, and consumer goods. By embedding permanent anti-static properties in the post molded material, ASC's eliminate fragile surfactant coatings or blooming antistats while keeping costs consistent with those processes. Traditionally, applications such as glass-filled ABS and polystyrene chip trays are dip coated to impart conductivity. These coatings easily wear or abrade away due to contact with electronic components or general handling. They are also dependent on environmental moisture for optimum performance. ASC's are non-sloughing, perform independent of environmental humidity, and can be washed or wiped off without losing anti-static performance. They are colorable to assist with identification and are bakeable at 65 °C for 24 hours. Surface resistivity of ABS or polystyrene Anti-Static Compounds is 1010 to 1011 ohm/sq and volume resistivity is 109 to 1011 ohm-cm. In addition to styrenic formulations, RTP Company has developed ASC's in polypropylene and polyethylene for applications like cleanroom tool grips, totes and boxes for electronic component transport, and general ESD applications.
