Cutting and creasing rules manufacturer, Sandvik Diecutting Products, part of Sandvik Materials Technology has produced an illustrated guide for cutting rules to enable diemakers and in-house die shops to select the optimum cutting rule for any material being processed. The so-called 'Applications Spider' is illustrated with a body and eight legs! The 'body' indicates that many print and packaging substrates can be cut with a standard shaved edge rule. Sandvik's recommended product is Sandvik Dieflex, 2 point centre bevel rule with a shaved edge and 52°edge angle. Each of the 'legs' shows developments of the standard rule for particular applications or substrates such as recycled board; multiple layer, thick materials; plastics; coated materials; corrugated board; tough materials; high pressure cutting and intricate shape dies. In total, there are 24 different rule types in a range point sizes, enabling Sandvik to claim that it has created and manufactures the widest range of rules currently available to the print, packaging and board converting industries. The Sandvik 'Applications Spider' is available as an A4 data sheet or as an A1 poster. Both are available from: Sandvik DieCutting Products, Great Central Way Rugby, Warwickshire, CV21 3XH, England.
