LOWER COST ONE-PACK STABILISERS
01 June 2001 - Akcros Chemicals

Akcros Chemicals’ ongoing research and development has resulted in the market introduction of two new low cost, one-pack stabiliser systems.

Akcros Chemicals’ ongoing research and development has resulted in the market introduction of two new low cost, one-pack stabiliser systems. The new products, INTERSTAB T-5172 and INTERSTAB T-5201, extend the company’s already broad INTERSTAB product family and are designed to offer greater cost-efficiency in rigid PVC applications, without any compromises in performance.

As generic products, both INTERSTAB T-5172 and INTERSTAB T-5201 are available at lower cost than others in the same family group and are cost-competitive with alternative choices. Each has a similar tin content level but they differ significantly in processing characteristics, although both exhibit good early color hold and long-term heat stability characteristics and their lubricity offers the potential for high extrusion rates. Addition levels range between 0.8 and 1.1phr.

The optimized balance of cost and performance offered by INTERSTAB T-5172 and INTERSTAB T-5201, has already resulted in them finding a fit in PVC siding substrate applications.

Specifically for high flow custom injection molded applications, Akcros Chemicals has also recently introduced INTERSTAB T-5160. This new stabilizer, which is suitable for injection molded pipe fittings and specialty high flow moldings, exhibits outstanding flow characteristics due to its ‘built-in’ lubricity that is designed into the molecule – and exceptional early color hold.

INTERSTAB is a family of tin and lead-based one-pack systems, which comprise a combination of stabilizers, lubricants and other additives to simplify the processing of rigid PVC. INTERSTAB systems meet the high performance requirements of these applications, which include window profiles, other profiles, pipes, fittings, sheets, cables and injection molded products, and can be delivered in low or non-dusting physical forms such as granules, flakes, tablets or agglomerated
powders, as well as in standard powder form.
