A STEEL FOR STRONGER CRANES AND LOADERS
23 January 2001 - SSAB Tunnplåt AB
| Steel producer SSAB Swedish Steel is launching a new super-strength steel Domex 750 MC at the Bauma 2001 trade fair in Munich. The steel, which is a hot-rolled cold-forming quality, allows stronger and lighter designs, and therefore improved performance, for cranes as well as plant and construction machinery. The result is greater profitability for customers such as construction companies, crane owners and subcontractors. Domex MC has a guaranteed minimum yield point of 750 N/mm2. Manufacturers of heavy vehicles, wheeled loaders, cranes and other heavy structures are provided with new opportunities to improve the performance of their products. Increased carrying capacity, lower dead weight and enhanced abrasion resistance are some of the advantages to be gained. "Domex 750 MC also provides openings for new innovative designs," comments Karl-Erik Olsson at SSAB Swedish Steel. "In comparison with currently available steels, the superior strength and hardness of our new steel offers solutions which can involve considerable financial benefits for both the producer and the customer. There are major opportunities for producers to further improve their designs." Domex 750 MC was developed from the established EN10149 range of hot rolled cold-forming steels. It is available in thicknesses of between three and six millimetres, although other dimensions could be produced by agreement. "We have an extensive research programme for high-strength steel and expect to launch more new materials fairly soon, which means that even stronger Domex steels will be presented," Mr Olsson concludes. SSAB Swedish Steel also manufactures and markets ultra high-strength, cold-reduced steels with minimum tensile strength of up to 1400 N/mm2. These are marketed under the name Docol and are used extensively in the automotive industry amongst other sectors.
