NEW 3M RESEARCH GRANT SUPPORTS ENHANCED KNOWLEDGE OF NON MELANOMA SKIN CANCER
3M Health Care has announced the inauguration of a new European grant supporting novel research into Non Melanoma Skin Cancer. The annual grant, which will be open to both individual researchers and research teams, will offer one award of 20,000 Euros to support increased scientific knowledge and understanding of this important disease area. Non Melanoma Skin Cancer, which generally refers to Basal Cell Carcinoma and cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma, is now the most common type of cancer, representing a major worldwide health problem and a significant burden on healthcare resources. The grant, which is the first of its kind organised by 3M Health Care's European pharmaceuticals organisation, will invite submissions for any type of research activity (such as clinical, epidemiological or paper-based) in the field of Non Melanoma Skin Cancer. Dr Elena Rizova, Medical Manager Europe, 3M Health Care, commented, "We are delighted to announce this new research grant and the opportunity it presents to better understand the aetiology, epidemiology and treatment of Non Melanoma Skin Cancer. We hope it will be recognised as not only a prestigious award to win but one that with 3M's support, can make a significant contribution to improving clinical outcomes for patients suffering from this increasingly prevalent disease." An internationally renowned panel of dermatology experts will select the most deserving submission to receive the grant. Research submissions should include a curriculum vitae, a maximum 3-page summary of the project including an expense budget, copies of supporting references and a 250-word justification, indicating why the project should be considered for the award. The duration of the research project should be no longer than six months, to be conducted following announcement of the winning submission in March 2006, with results available for presentation at an international congress in October 2006. Closing date for receipt of submissions is 31st December 2005.
