CLARIANT SELLS JAPANESE EMULSIONS MANUFACTURER

Clariant has sold its Japanese emulsions manufacturer Clariant Polymers KK to The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co Ltd for a total transaction value of Yen 2.4 billion (approximately CHF 27 million). The transaction marks a further step in Clariant’s strategy to sell businesses that are outside its core activities.

Clariant has sold its Japanese emulsions manufacturer Clariant Polymers KK to The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co Ltd for a total transaction value of Yen 2.4 billion (approx. CHF 27 million). The transaction marks a further step in Clariant’s strategy to sell businesses that are outside its core activities.

Clariant Polymers KK is a manufacturer and distributor of liquid and powder emulsions that are used in numerous applications primarily in the construction industry. In the year 2003 the company with a manufacturing plant in Ogaki and R&D laboratories in Shizuoka generated sales of about Yen 5 billion (around CHF 56 million). All 110 employees will be transferred to the purchasing company. Already in December 2002 Clariant had sold large parts of its emulsions business to the Celanese Group.

The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co Ltd (Nippon Gohsei) – headquartered in Osaka/Japan – is a major chemical company for the manufacture of acetic acid resins, polymers, and electric related materials that end up in various applications in packaging, and electronic products. With around 1400 employees it generates yearly net sales of more than Yen 70 billion. The purchase of Clariant Polymers KK will significantly extend its technology portfolio.
