ENGINES REV AT FORMULA ONE RACE, WITH THE HELP OF ABB
01 July 2006 - ABB Automation Technologies

Shanghai recently hosted the Formula One, and while sleek, high-performance racers battle for victory, at least one winner crossed the finish line before the race even began: ABB.

ABB has helped China host the Formula One Grand Prix for the first time this year, in the booming city of Shanghai.

ABB won the contract to supply low voltage equipment for both the racetrack and neighboring buildings. "We supplied all the distribution gear up to the 400 volt level," explains Bernd Wagner, an ABB sales engineer stationed in China. The products were manufactured in Heidelberg and China.

Over 5,000 panel circuit breakers, switchgear and motor contactors were used. "ABB products are being used in the lighting systems, measurement and communications systems, as well as the power supplies for the air conditioning systems and service stations," Wagner says.

The F1 race in China took place on an impressive, six-kilometer-long track, the fifth-longest on the F1 circuit, which was constructed at the gates of Shanghai in a mere eighteen months.
